Published

Ike Ekweremadu, the disgraced former Deputy Senate President who is now being held in detention in the UK, has 40 landed properties that a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered to be temporarily forfeited.

Following an ex-parte motion filed and brought by Ibrahim Buba on behalf of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Justice Inyang Ekwo issued the ruling.

The Judge mandated that the EFCC publish the interim forfeiture order of the properties in a national daily within seven days of granting the order.

He made it clear that everyone with a stake in the seized property should make their intentions known within 14 days of the court’s interim forfeiture order being published.

Justice Ekwo postponed the suit until December 5, 2022, when he will report on it and determine whether there are any public concerns about the aforementioned properties.

The following properties are included in the interim forfeiture order for Ekweremadu: 10 in Enugu, 3 in the United States, 2 in the United Kingdom, 1 in Lagos, 9 in Dubai, the United Emirate Republic, and 15 in the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the judgement, anyone with a stake in the assets subject to the interim forfeiture must explain to the court, within 14 days of the newspaper publication, why the properties should not be permanently forfeited to the federal government.

The former Deputy Senate President and his wife are currently standing trial in the United Kingdom over alleged organ harvest ,another matter that is not related with the said properties.
