I’ll Go Back To Daura Far Away From Abuja After Handing Over – Buhari

Published

After May 29, 2023, President Muhammadu Buhari says he won’t be in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) so as not to intervene in the business of his successor’s office.

When FCT citizens paid him the customary Christmas Day homage on Sunday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, led by the Minister Malam Mohammed Bello, the president provided this signal.

The president reaffirmed his intention to return to his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, at the conclusion of his term at the final Christmas Day ceremony with the FCT people.

He claims that he chose not to settle permanently in Abuja in order to give his successor full control over the government’s operations.

The President also stated that he had not constructed a new home anywhere, including Daura, and that he intended to continue living in the same house that he had for many years.

President Buhari also took the opportunity to praise the FCT Minister, adding that it was due of his honesty and diligence that he had held the cabinet position for so long.

The president claims to be aware of the overwhelming number of requests for land allocations made to the office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by prominent Nigerians who frequently use their allotments for financial gain and other agendas.

He related a personal example about a person who begged him to talk to the FCT Minister on their behalf so that they may give him a plot of land.

Buhari quoting the person saying:

”I will sell it and use the money to marry another wife”.

The president said: ‘‘I was overwhelmed by the priority of some people who need a plot of land not to develop it but to sell it and marry another wife.

‘‘I don’t know how the Minister copes with such people who are extremely serious about such things.

”And I think about 45 per cent of those who have been given land allocation in the FCT have sold it and didn’t develop it according to the laid down criteria (master plan).’’

Buhari thanked Nigerians for their support of his administration, noting that he had traveled the length and breadth of the nation in the run-up to the 2015 and 2019 elections to solicit their support.
