Old Naira Notes: Emefiele Honours Reps’ Invitation

Godwin Emefiele, governor of the central bank, is currently testifying before the House of Representatives’ special committee on cashless Policy.

Recall that the House invited Emefiele and the country’s chief executives of commercial banks last week.

Emefiele was unable to attend owing to his travel to Dakar, Senegal, with President Muhammadu Buhari.

In light of this, the House threatened to utilize the appropriate legal provisions last Thursday at plenary to issue a warrant for the governor’s arrest. The House was insisting that the CBN extend the usage of the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes by six months.

However, on Sunday, Emefiele announced the extension of the January 31 deadline to February 10, 2023.

The governor also honored the committee’s summon on Tuesday.
