Osun State INEC Office Raze By Fire

Published

A portion of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office in the Oke Iresi council district of Ede South Local Government Area was destroyed by fire on Thursday.

When smoke was reportedly seen coming from the secretariat’s conference room a few minutes before 10am, the fire department was sent right away.

An eyewitness, who requested not to be identified in the media, said that due to Osun State Fire Service’s quick response to the event, the fire was contained to the secretariat’s conference room alone.

He said, however, that the fire entirely destroyed the room, razing down all of the furniture and other belongings.

Further information revealed that materials including a knife, bread pieces, a keg of gasoline, and a fez were found at the fire’s scene, suggesting the possibility of arson.

Ibrahim Adekunle, the Osun State Fire Service’s public relations officer, could not be reached for comment since calls to his line were not received, and as of the time this story was filed, he had not replied to a text message given to him.

However, the incidence was corroborated by Seun Osimosu, the Osun INEC’s Public Relations Officer.

“It is true. REC is on his way to inspect the scene. We will respond appropriately soonest.”
