WAHALA!!! High Court Nullifies Labour Party’s Alex Otti’s Candidature With All LP Candidates In Abia And Kano

Published

The Labour Party (LP), Dr. Alex Otti, and all of the party’s candidates in the states of Abia and Kano have had their candidacies declared invalid by Justice M. N. Yunusa of a Federal High Court sitting in Kano.

Their appearance was determined by the court to be in violation of the Electoral Act of 2022’s stipulations.

A copy of the judgment that the Daily Post was able to obtain indicates that the decision was made on Friday.

The court’s decision concerned a lawsuit filed by Mr. Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with the case number FHC/KN/CS/107/2023.

The court ruled that the Labour Party’s failure to submit its membership register to the INEC within 30 days before their primaries rendered the process invalid.

Justice Yunusa said, “The party that has not complied with the provisions of the electoral act cannot be said to have candidate in an election and cannot be declared winner of an election; this being so, the votes credited to the 1st defendant is a wasted vote.”
