Al Sadd are ‘ANGRY’ with Barcelona’s pursuit of Xavi as their new manager

Published

Qatari club Al Sadd are reportedly furious with how Barcelona have conducted their pursuit of Xavi as they hunt for a new manager.

Xavi is the strong favorite to take over in Catalonia following Barcelona’s decision to part ways with Ronald Koeman last week after the Dutchman oversaw the club’s worst start to a season since 1987-88.
But Al Sadd is desperate to keep hold of their coach, who has enjoyed major success in his two years in charge in the Middle East.
They even released a public statement on Twitter on Friday night, warning Barcelona off of Xavi and reminding their coach that he has a two-year contract they expect him to honour.

The post read: ‘In response to what’s circulating recently, the #AlSadd management reaffirms that Xavi has a two-year contract with the club and is fully focused on the team’s upcoming matches, to maintain our lead at the top of the league and to defend the title. #AlwaysAlSadd’.

And Spanish newspaper Marca reported on Monday morning that Al Sadd is ‘angry’ with how Barcelona has ‘treated the deal as done in the past few days.
It’s also claimed that nobody from the LaLiga club has even contacted Al Sadd to begin formal negotiations over a deal for Xavi.
According to Sport, Xavi has a release clause of £840,000 that Barcelona will have to fork out, although AS says there could be a gentleman’s agreement between the manager and his bosses in Qatar to let him leave for free.
Xavi has managed Al Sadd for two years and joined as a player in 2015 after leaving Barca. The LaLiga side has placed Sergi Barjuan, the current coach of the club’s B-team, in temporary charge of the first team.
