A certain human rights activist identified as Kenechukwu Okeke is responsible for the legal action.

He filed the criminal complaints before a magistrate court in Abuja against 50 persons over their alleged involvement in #EndSARS protests.

Some of the persons listed in the suit include Nigerian football star, Kanu Nwankwo, musicians’ Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, Innocent Idibia, aka Tubaba, and Davido.

According to Okeke, the riot which followed the suspension of protests, led to the destruction of his properties, hence the reason for his suit to make defendants who promoted the #EndSARS protests be brought to justice.

Okeke, in the court document posted on his Twitter handle on Monday, alleged that the defendants used Twitter, a micro-blogging platform, to instigate “some riotous and tumultuous persons” who destroyed his (Okeke’s) property.

He added that the actions of the defendants contravened Section 97 (2) of the Penal Code Act, C53 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2001.

In a tweet accompanying the suit, Okeke wrote:

“Having initiated criminal proceedings against the #EndSARS riots promoters at exactly 1052hrs WAT, 09/11/2020, we shall ensure that same is diligently prosecuted in the interest of defence, public safety and public order. The Federal Republic of Nigeria is country of laws.”

Other musicians sued include Peter and Paul Okoye, Bankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W, Tiwa Savage, Michael Ajereh aka Don Jazzy and Yemi Alade.

Apart from musicians, others listed as defendants include Senior Pastor, Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi; activist, Aisha Yesufu; a former Director-General, Bureau for Public Sector Reform, Dr Joe Abah; journalist, Kiki Mordi, and actors, Yul Edochie and Uche Jombo.
