Breaking: Russia Block Facebook

Published

Russia has blocked Meta owned Facebook on March 4, claiming that the social media platform is discriminating against Russian channels.

The country’s media regulator Roskomnadzor said that they had detected 26 cases of discrimination against Russian state-backed channels like RT and the RIA news agency since October 2020, which they consider a violation of Russian’s rights and freedoms.

In return, Meta’s head of global affairs, Nick Clegg, said the company would continue to do everything it could to restore its services.

Last week, Moscow partially limited access to Facebook after the company refused the Russian government’s request to stop the independent fact-checking of several Russian state media outlets.
