Buhari Must Step Down As APC Campaign Chairman, For free And Fair Election – Deji Adeyanju

Published

Controversial activist, Deji Adeyanju, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to step down from his position as All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council Chairman.

Deji, in a statement, said President Buhari cannot be talking of a free and fair election while he is the chairman of a campaign council of a political party.

“This is a terrible signal of conflict of interest and bad body language to the electorates.”

“He is the father of the nation and he should stay neutral. I, therefore, call on Mr President to step down his appointment as the Chairman of the Campaign Council of the APC to allow for a free and fair election as he has promised Nigerians and the international community will be impressed with such a move,”

While saying that Buhari being the Chairman of the APC Campaign Council was a moral issue and not a legal issue, Adeyanju further said President Buhari has placed a moral burden on himself and by himself by occupying the position.

“So, he should be the one to show course and instigate confidence in free and fair and credible polls in February.”

“On the part of INEC, whether INEC is a rubber stamp despite the Electoral Act, we have seen time and time again that the political actors in Nigeria are not willing to play by the rules.”

“And that is why INEC may be a lame duck. If you look at the disenfranchisement of voters, how will INEC be able to prevent that?”

“It is only a neutral president who will ensure the police, the army and all the other security agencies do not actively participate in anything that will compromise the election,”
