Calabar Carnival death: 7 dead,29 injured

Barely one hour after the flag-off of the Bikers/Exotic Cars Parade, which is part of the events leading to Wednesday’s Carnival in Calabar, about seven persons have been feared dead while 29 number of persons have sustained various degrees of injuries.

An unregistered exotic vehicle which took part in the event lost control and rammed into spectators at the Bogobiri axis of the carnival route, inhabited mainly by the Hausa/Fulani natives.

The incident abruptly brought the day five activity to an end, where the state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade was already seated with other dignitaries.

FRSC Sector Commander, Maikano Hassan said the injured were rushed to Naval hospital and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) for medical attention.

He said that the remains of the dead had been deposited in the two hospitals in Calabar.
