The candlelight procession that held for late Afrobeat sensation, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, in Lekki, took an unexpected turn as tear gas was unleashed upon the crowd on Thursday night.

The procession had begun at the Lekki Phase 1 gate with plans to culminate at Muri Okunola Park, where a tribute concert was scheduled to commemorate the late singer’s life and work.

Clad in white t-shirts, Mohbad’s fans and well-wishers came together, immersing themselves in his music, dancing, and carrying posters and banners adorned with the late artist’s images.

Tragically, the mood shifted dramatically after the event concluded, when tear gas canisters were fired into the crowd. A series of videos circulating on social media captured the chaotic scene, with scores of people fleeing in distress.

The aftermath of this abrupt disruption was marked by individuals who suffered injuries during the turmoil.

Many of them required immediate medical attention, with some being rushed to the hospital for treatment.
