Di Maria Accused Of ‘Disrespect’ By Koeman Over Messi Comments

Published

Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman had accused Psg and Argentine player, Angel Di Maria of disrespect after the Paris-Saint Germain midfielder hinted he could team up with Lionel Messi.

Messi continues to be linked with a move away from the Nou Camp when his current deal expires at the end of this season, with PSG among the favourites for the Argentine superstar’s signature.

Di Maria does not know whether he will still be at the Parc des Princes next season, with his own contract due to end this summer.

But the former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger is hoping for a chance to play alongside his international team-mate Messi at club level next season.

“I had the opportunity at one moment in my career to go to Barcelona but it was not done,” the PSG ace said in an interview with TyC Sports , quoted by Get Football News France.

“We could say that there is another chance to be able to play with him but my contract is coming to an end and I do not know what will happen.”

Di Maria said he could “happily retire” after a season with Messi as his team-mate in Paris.

“I would be very happy to play alongside him,” the 32-year-old said.

“I have already played with Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Mbappé. If I could play as well with Leo… I could happily retire after that!”

But the Argentine’s comments drew the ire of Koeman, whose Barca side play PSG in the Champions League round of 16 in two weeks’ time.

”For me, it’s a lack of respect,” said the Barcelona boss, quoted by Get Spanish Football News.

“It’s not respectful to speak about a player that is still a Barça player.

“It’s not good, especially before a Champions League game against PSG.”
