EndSars: Two Ex-SARS Officers Sentenced To Death By Hanging

Published

Two former members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, which was abolished, were found guilty and given execution by hanging sentences by a High Court in Port Harcourt.

They were a part of the SARS squad of five people that were on trial for the 2015 slayings of Michael Akor and Michael Igwe while they were being held for allegedly stealing recharge cards in Oyigbo, Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The accused officers were Ogoligo, Olisa Emeka, Magus Awuri, Shedrack Ibibo, and Samuel Chigbu. Ibibo, Awuri, and Emeka resumed the trial while Chigbu and Ogoligo passed away while being held at the Port Harcourt prison.

Shedrack Ibibo and Magus Awuri were found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder in the trial judge’s ruling, Justice Margaret Opara, while Emeka was declared innocent.

Speaking to journalists after the judgment, the state prosecution council expressed happiness, saying justice has been served.
