King Salman Of Saudi Declares General Holiday To Commemorate Victory Over Argentina

Published

Following Saudi Arabia’s 2-1 victory over Argentina in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has proclaimed Wednesday a national holiday in Saudi Arabia.

On Tuesday night, Saudi Gazzette announced the news on Twitter.

The World Cup favorites Argentina were dramatically defeated by the Arabian team in Group C during the match that took place on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite being favored to win and having seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, who is probably the finest player in the world right now, Argentina failed to get control of the game and lost all three points to a tenacious Saudi Arabia.

In honor of #SaudiArabia’s amazing victory against Argentina in the #WorldCup2022, the tweet stated, “King Salman orders that tomorrow, Wednesday, will be a holiday for all employees in the public and commercial sectors as well as students in all phases of education.”

The PUNCH had previously stated that Saudi Arabia swiftly turned the match around following the start of the second half with goals from Saleh Alshehri (48′), who tied Argentina, and Saleh Aldawsari (53′), who scored the game-winning goal.

Saudi Arabia has participated in 17 FIFA World Cup games thus far, losing 11 and drawing 2. At a World Cup, Saudi Arabia has only ever advanced once past the group stage (1994).
