Laporta: Messi’s Renewal is Progressing Adequately

Published

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reiterated that talks regarding Lionel Messi’s contract renewal with Barcelona are progressing well and sent an optimistic message to Blaugrana fans.

Messi’s deal with the Blaugrana expired on July 1, but the club have yet to announce a renewal as they are trying to find ways to comply with LaLiga’s financial fair play rules, and balance their books ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. Meanwhile, Messi won his first-ever Copa America with Argentina after beating Brazil 1-0 in the Maracana final.

“[Messi’s renewal] is progressing adequately” said Laporta during the presentation of Mago Pop’s show ‘Nothing is impossible’.

“All the Catalans, Barcelona, Catalonia and the entire football world are happy because Leo won the Copa America.

“It is very exciting to see the best player in football history get excited about winning a title like this and he made all of us cry with joy.

“He is very happy, we are all happy, I am happy for Leo who has managed [to win the Copa America], together with his teammates, and that Argentina are once again in the elite, and [I am] also [happy] for [Sergio] Aguero.

“I am happy for Messi’s family, for Argentina, for Barcelona who are recognised, admired and loved for having this bond with Leo.”
