MAMA Centre Pushes For Sexual Harassment Bill

Published

The Mothers and Marginalised Advocacy (MAMA) Centre has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the full implementation of the Sexual Harassment Bill as a way to protect women and girls across Nigeria.

This information was passed on Friday by the Executive Director, MAMA, Ola Onyegbula who noted that the Sexual Harassment Bill was important. Onyegbula called for stiffer punishments against rapists of women and girls across the nation.

She also stated that the perpetrators of violence against women and girls should not be allowed to go unpunished. Punishing them, she said would serve as a deterrent to others going down the same path.

Onyegbula on behalf of MAMA advocated for the immediate assent of the Sexual Harassment Bill as a way to secure the health, emotional and physical well-being of women and girls across Nigeria.

She called for the adaptation and full implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act across the 036 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Onyegbula said, “We call for the immediate ascent of the Sexual Harassment Bill as a demonstration of sincere commitment to secure the health, emotional and physical well-being of women and girls in the country.”
