NFF Tenders Apology To The Nigeria Public For Poor Showing Of Super Eagles And U23 Team

Published

The Senior Men’s National Team (Super Eagles) and the U23 Men’s National Team (Olympic Eagles) both performed poorly in important international matches this week, and the Nigeria Football Federation has apologized to the majority of Nigerians for their performances.

Two days after the U23 team lost to Guinea in the first leg of the final qualifying match for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles lost 0-1 to Guinea Bissau’s Djurtus in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The NFF’s president, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, said the organization was unsurprised by the underwhelming performances but would work hard to ensure the sides improved in their qualifying games.

“We tender an unreserved apology to Nigerians for the poor results. We worked and planned hard for good results but things turned out differently on the pitch. Our focus now is on redeeming the situation in the return matches early next week.”

Gusau expressed confidence the U23 boys will take their chances in Rabat on Tuesday against Guinea to qualify for the U23 AFCON, and that the Super Eagles will win in Bissau on Monday to return to the top of their qualifying group for the 2023 AFCON.
