Nigeria Dance Queen Kaffy Loses Mom

Published

Nigeria’s dance queen, Kafayat Shafau Ameh popularly known as Kaffy, has just lost her mother at the age of 85.

Kaffy made the announcement today, May 25th, on her Instagram page with a throwback video of her mum dancing.

She wrote; “Mama has gone to Rest! 😢 #82”

Recall that months back, Kaffy shared an adorable video of herself with her aged mum dancing at what appears to be a dance studio or a gym.

In the video, the mother was seen jumping and dancing just as well as any young woman would.

Dancer Kaffy spent the early part of her childhood in London. Her family moved back to Nigeria and her parents separated when she was 12 years old.

Kaffy’s mother became a single parent struggling to care for Kaffy and her siblings. Her personal struggles instinctively led Kaffy to empower herself through fitness training and sports at the National Stadium in Lagos.

Kaffy later started making a living as a fitness instructor and began dancing when she decided to infuse the element of fun into her training sessions.

In 2006, Kaffy, alongside her dance company Imagneto, entered the Guinness book of world records for ‘longest dance party ever’.

She and her group danced for 55 hours and 40 minutes.
