Nigerians Blast Osinbajo For Not Acting Like US VP Mike Pence

Published

Many Nigerians have described the Vice President Nigeria as a coward for refusing to stand up like Mike Pence against the injustices meted on the people.

VP, Yemi Osinbajo

Nigerians on social media have roasted Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for not standing with the constitution and the people the way United States Vice President Mike Pence defended his country’s constitution against his own party yesterday.

Recall that Mr Pence had taken a stand against the wishes of President Donald Trump urging him not to certify the election of President-elect Joe Biden.

He followed the constitution and certified Biden’s win against the wishes of his party and that of President Trump, proving that institutions are stronger than individuals.

Unlike in America, Nigerians slammed Mr Osinbajo for his alleged cowardice to go against his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, in standing up for Nigerians and the Nigerian Constitution to end the administration’s alleged impunity.

Below are some reactions of Nigerian youths gathered by DAILY NIGERIAN from Twitter: @Ozo_Njenje: “Osibanjo is a coward, Mike Pence showed how men act by going against Trumps wishes, don’t say America is not Nigeria, Atiku went against Obasanjo when he wanted to live in Aso Rock forever, May we never have a coward prof like @ProfOsinbajo as vice president again.”

@AbdullahiBabat9: “Osibanjo is a coward, Mike Pence showed how men should act by going against trumps wishes, don’t say America is not Nigeria, Atiku went against Obasanjo when he wanted to rule in Aso Rock forever, May we never have a coward prof like @ProfOsinbajo as vice president again.”

@TopeAkinyode: “In 5 years of lawless regime, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, law professor & Senior Advocate of Nigeria has refused to stand up for Nigerians and the Nigerian Constitution just for once. Sad.”

@iam_kinglambo: Prof Osibanjo is a coward it’s now obvious why he was chosen, Mike Pence shows class, that’s what a man that has the heart of his people, not by answering a pastor, be fearless when it comes standing on the right quirks.”

@UNCLE_AJALA: “See how VP Mike Pence stood with constitution by doing the right things as he defends America institutions because he knows the loyalty of any good leader is to the masses & the institutions, we can’t say that for VP Osibanjo, who puts loyalty to Buhari above patriotism & masses.”

@draizident: “I’m beginning to question why we all think Osinbajo is a good man but only a coward been subdued by the higher ups. What if he’s just as wicked as them all?”

@PDPVanguard: “Atiku had gone against Obasanjo’s third term agenda that’s designed to create anarchy in Nigeria. Mike Pence has opposed Donald Trump’s destruction agenda. Osibanjo a law professor can’t even correct the @mbuhari‘s assertion that “rule of law isn’t a hallmark of democracy”.

@lionofjada: “Atiku fought against a 3rd term agenda. Mike Pence defended America’s democracy by his actions today. Osibanjo… Well……”

@firstladyship: ”U.S Constitution says VP Mike Pence, is Senate President. However, the fraudulent 1999 Constitution didn’t confer such powers on Osinbajo So the issue here is MORAL. Repeatedly, Osibanjo has said he is Buhari’s son. Basically, his loyalty is to Buhari & Aso Rock, not to Nigeria.”

Some of the youths however, reminded Nigerians on how Mr Osinbajo has been active, up and doing as VP and acting president.

Mr @falomojoy wrote: “We are so forgetful in this country. How can you be dragging Osinbajo? Besides his active pro-people advocacy and activities in govt in his capacity as VP, it was this man who fired the former DG, SSS when he violated the sanctity of the National Assembly.”

@ikhanvbode: “Prof. Yemi Osibanjo 2023, wouldn’t be bad for Nigeria. I’ll pick him over Atiku, Tinubu or the Buhari’s wannabes from the North. His under performance as Vice President is due to Buhari’s perception of the office of the Vice President and the power of the cabal.”

@JackObinyan: “Seeing Osibanjo trending on Twitter I knew it was an attack. His loyalty to our democracy is paining some to their bone marrows, they would wish he declared himself President when Baba was ill. Eeyah, you guys will have to wait till 2023. You can take Ibuprofen till then!”

@Morris_Monye, who wrote “Mike Pence refused to overturn the electoral college votes and held his grounds. I wish Osibanjo was this patriotic to Nigerians and the constitution. Loyalty to Buhari does not necessarily equate to patriotism. The sad thing is Osibanjo is more educated than Pence.” In his reply, Mr @Letter_to_Jack tweeted “How does this affect Osibanjo? Was Osibanjo and Pence in the same situation? Pence followed the constitution, Osibanjo did the same. How are you using this as a dig at the VP?
