OGC Nice Buy Todibo From Barcelona

Published

French side OGC Nice have officially exercised the right to purchase Jean-Clair Todibo from FC Barcelona.

FC Barcelona to receive 8.5 million euros plus 7 million in variables, and also holds a percentage on any future sale.

The Catalan club will receive 8.5 million euros, while the deal also includes a potential further seven million in variables and an undisclosed sell-on percentage.

The operation means that Barcelona have made a profit on Todibo, a player who was not in Ronald Koeman’s plans for 2021/22 anyway.

The Frenchman signed for Barcelona for around one million euros from Toulouse in January 2019, after having already agreed a pre-contract to join that summer.

However, the centre back would only go on to make five appearances for the Blaugrana and was loaned out to Schalke, Benfica and then Nice.

The 21-year-old arrived at Nice in February 2021 and found the stability he so badly needed. He made 17 appearances before the end of the season and did enough to earn a permanent deal.

For Barcelona, this was a failed project in a sporting sense, but a reasonable success in terms of the financial side of things, and right now every cent counts.
