Violence has erupted in Paris as fans clashed with riot police following Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) defeat in the Champions League Final.

Riot police were attacked and shops in the city were vandalised on Sunday night as angry football fans took to the streets, with at least 16 police officers injured in the clashes.

It came after Bayern Munich beat PSG 1-0 in Lisbon, Portugal, with the German side celebrating a sixth Champions League title.

The result was a bitter disappointment for PSG and its fans.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed on Monday that at least 16 police officers were injured.

Condemning the violence, he wrote on Twitter: “The savagery of certain delinquents from last night: 16 members of the police forces injured, 12 shops attacked, around 15 cars vandalised.”

PSG fans had already been involved in clashes in Paris with the police earlier on Sunday.

Some supporters threw projectiles at police vehicles outside PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium.

They have eventually dispersed the angry crowd with tear gas, video footage on social media showed.
