A hit-and-run motorist has reportedly knocked down a senior photojournalist, Mr William Mukoro, in the Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Punch Metro reports.

Mukoro, a senior photographer with the Urhobo Voice Newspapers, was hit by a vehicle at the Ovwian junction and the driver ran away after the incident.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the accident occurred on Monday.

A source said, “Immediately the vehicle ran over the victim, the driver sped off, thinking that the journalist had died.

“Efforts to chase the vehicle were not successful, because of the dusk to dawn curfew imposed on the area.

“The victim was rushed to the Kwofia Clinic by sympathisers and the prompt response of the medical team helped to revive Mukoro.”

On his part, the victim narrated how the incident happened on his treatment bed thus, “I was standing by the road; that’s all I remembered. Later I woke up to see that I was strapped to the bed here in the hospital.

“I was told that a fast-moving vehicle hit me and the driver ran away. People thought I was dead, but some good Samaritans rushed me here. Without any money and contact, the doctor and his team revived me.

“The doctor later used my phone to contact my friends and family members. I want to thank the hospital for saving my life.

“Whoever does this evil against me, I leave him to God; he has caused my family untold hardship in this lockdown period.

“God will help me to overcome this challenge.”

As of the time of filing this report, Mukoro’s condition in the hospital was said to be critical.
