Umkhokha Full Story

“Ithempeli Lenkosi, the largest church in KwaZulu-Natal, is led by Kwazi Mthembu. Beyond its religious focus, the church is deeply involved in profitable business ventures. One such venture involves a water-selling enterprise eager to join forces with the church.

In a unique arrangement, a beverage company enters into a contract with Kwazi Mthembu’s church. The church’s leader blesses the water before it’s bottled, and the product is then sold for a significant profit. The financial gains are shared between the church and the bottling company.

The narrative takes a dramatic turn when tragedy strikes, and Kwazi Mthembu, the leader of the church, is killed. This event triggers a power struggle, with two families now competing for the coveted top position. MaMzobe, the wife of the second-in-command, passionately believes her husband should lead Ithempeli Lenkosi. However, before his passing, Mthembu designated his eldest son, Sphamandla, as the rightful successor, despite Sphamandla being in prison at the time.

Determined to secure leadership within her family, MaMzobe takes extreme measures. She employs witchcraft and hires henchmen to eliminate anyone in her way, including her own children, Xolisile and Nobuntu, fellow church members, and even the Mthembu clan. The central question emerges: Can Sphamandla outsmart MaMzobe and rightfully claim the coveted leadership role despite the challenges and dangers that lie ahead?”
