Iyabo Ojo Cries Out About N18m Lagos State Income Tax

Published

The Lagos State Government has given renowned Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo a seven-day deadline to pay N18,640,092.00 in income tax. She might go to jail if she doesn’t cooperate.

The Lagos government accused the actress of owing N7,376,000.00 in taxes for the year 2022 and N11,264,092 in back taxes for the tax year 2021 in a letter addressed to her.

Iyabo Ojo responded to the letter by criticizing the tax bill’s calculation process and declaring it to be far too high. She shared a photo of the bill on her Instagram profile as a means of expressing her displeasure with the circumstance.

She directed her message to Governor Jide Sanwoolu and the Lagos State Government, questioning the basis for the outrageously high personal income taxes that she receives regularly.

She highlighted that despite already paying various taxes for her businesses and property, the additional amount demanded within a seven-day timeframe was unreasonable.

Iyabo Ojo also referred to a previous occasion when she was asked to visit the government office, where she provided an explanation and declaration of her earnings through her tax consultant.

However, her letter received no response, suggesting that the government intended to extract an exorbitant amount of money from her, which she does not possess.

She rhetorically asked if she should resort to thievery to comply with their demands.

She further questioned the government’s method of determining such exorbitant bills and highlighted the lack of tangible support or benefits she has received from them.

In a defiant tone, she concluded her statement by stating that if the government insists on its course of action, it is welcome to shut down her business, arrest her, imprison her, or even take her life, as everyone will eventually face death.
