Lagos Closes Airport Bridge For Structural Assessment After Tanker Fire Gut Bridge

Published

The Lagos State Government has reopened the Toyota Airport Bridge on the Oshodi-Isolo Expressway due to a recent tanker fire impacting the bridge.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, claimed in a statement he personally signed on Sunday that the closing of the bridge to the vehicle movement was intended to allow the government to carry out structural engineering tests on the bridge.

He noted that alternate routes for motorists had been identified awaiting the results of the tests and the re-opening of the bridge to traffic.

According to Oladeinde, the Aiye and Osolo Route to Asa Afariogun will be used by motorists from Mile 2 to Cele on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway via 7&8 to reach the International Airport Lane.

The Commissioner clarified that Toyota motorists will use the service lanes of the Armed Forces Relocation Center at BOC Gases in the old NAFDAC headquarters.

He added that, during the diversions, State traffic management officials would deploy to the above-mentioned highways to monitor and maintain traffic movement along the axes.

He told people that the Airport Bridge would be opened for use as soon as the necessary checks or action to make it safe and stable to do so.
