Lille Beat PSG To France’s Trophee Des Champions

Published

Lille beat Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 championship last season and they’ve now denied the capital city side another title, winning the Trophee des Champions – France’s Super Cup. Xeka scored the only goal of the 1-0 win, meaning PSG start the 2021/22 season with disappointment.

He netted just before half time, but PSG weren’t able to fight back in the second half. The Parisians dominated possession throughout this match, held in Israel, but they couldn’t capitalize on their control of the ball and their best chance was from a set piece, when Abdou Diallo headed over.

This is a blow for Mauricio Pochettino, although it is true that PSG were missing Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos, Neymar, Angel di Maria, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Verratti, Marquinhos, Pablo Sarabia and Leandro Paredes. But, Lille were also missing key players Renato Sanches and Zeki Celik.

The Ligue 1 season gets up and running next weekend, with PSG visiting Troyes on Saturday and Lille getting their title defence up and running away at Metz on Sunday.
