Roma vs AC Milan Preview: AC Milan will look set to continue their impressive run at the top of the Seria A table by taking three against Roma

Roma vs AC Milan

In what promises to be a highlight matchup in this Serie A weekend, Milan’s unblemished start positions them as marginal favorites as they visit the city of Rome.

Team News:

Mourinho’s Roma is under pressure to rebound after securing a mere point from two supposedly easy matches this season.

Antonio Candreva, formerly of Lazio, made a stunning return to the Stadio Olimpico, guiding Salernitana to a 2-2 draw with Roma on day one.

The Giallorossi subsequently suffered a 2-1 loss to Hellas Verona at Bentegodi, largely due to a disastrous first-half showing.

Contrastingly, AC Milan’s flawless beginning has placed them at the summit of the table, boasting the best goal difference in the league.

French stars Mike Maignan and Olivier Giroud made significant contributions to secure a 2-0 victory for Stefano Pioli’s squad against Bologna in their season opener.

Newcomer Christian Pulisic made his mark by scoring in his debut and added another in a 4-1 demolition of Torino the following weekend.

Pulisic etched his name in Milan’s records by becoming only the fifth individual to find the net in his inaugural two league appearances for the team.

Meanwhile, Giroud netted two spot-kicks in the same match, positioning himself atop Serie A’s scorers’ list.

Among the teams with a flawless record, which includes Napoli, Verona, and Inter, Milan stands out due to the quality of their victories.

Prediction:

Roma has been consistent in scoring, registering goals in 20 of their last 21 home fixtures.

They’ve also witnessed over two goals in nine out of their past ten matches. If Lukaku gets game time, their offensive potency could further amplify.

Yet, despite their less than stellar away record last season, Milan’s current form is commendable.

They haven’t faced defeat against Roma since October 2019, with four victories and three draws in their last seven encounters.

Possible Starting Line-up

Roma:
Rui Patricio; Mancini, Smalling, Diego Llorente; Karsdorp, Pellegrini, Paredes, Aouar, Spinazzola; Belotti, El Shaarawy

AC Milan:
Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Rafael Leao
