man dragged to court over N1.8 million fraud

A 21-year-old man, Sanni Bako, has been arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.8 million fraud.

The accused person committed the offence on July 5 around 2.30 p.m. at Ikoyi Quarters in Ile-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused person collected N1.8 million from the complainant, Mr Elijah Fadahunsi, that he would sell a Toyota Corolla to him but failed to do so.

He said the accused person converted the money to his personal use.

The accused person whose address was not provided pleaded not guilty to the fraud charge levelled against him.

The offence committed contravened Sections 383(3), 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

Babatunde promised that his client would not jump bail but would provide substantial sureties.

Magistrate Busayo Adediwura granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adediwura ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She added that one of the sureties must be land owner, while both sureties should provide evidence of three years’ tax clearance to the Osun State Government.

The case was adjourned till August 30 for mention.
